Chikorita, Totodile or Tepig best Choose Path choice for Pokémon Legends Z-A Timed Research

The best Choose Path choice for Pokémon Legends Z-A Timed Research is subjective to your current needs in Pokémon Go. Sorry this isn’t a very useful answer, but there’s honestly no true stand out choice when it comes to this quest. Thankfully, there are a couple of factors you can consider when making your path decision.

For starters, let’s take a look at how each Pokémon’s final evolution fairs in the battle meta. Starting with Feraligatr, it sits very close to the top 20 Water-type Pokémon. Shadow Feraligatr, meanwhile, fairs far better in the rankings. If you already have its Shadow version, then you could always use this research quest to farm some easy Totodile Candy.

Meganium follows a similar pattern to Feraligatr, with its Shadow variant being close to the top 20 Grass-types. So, again, you might want to choose this path if you want some extra Chikorita Candy. Regular Meganium is far lower down the rankings and would only be really useful in battle if you’re a newcomer and don’t have a better option, like Venusaur, available to you.

Emboar is the only dual type out of the three – being a Fire and Fighting-type – which may make it seem like the best option. In reality, just like the previous Pokémon, it’s only a good option if you already have Shadow Emboar. This Pokémon is a very powerful Fire-type, so this quest is a good way to earn some Tepig Candy to power it up. When it comes to regular Emboar, it sits on the edge of the top 30 Fire-types. This makes it a good choice but not the best. The downside, however, is that Emboar only truly lives up to its potential if it knows the featured attack, Blast Burn.

When it comes to being a Fighting-type option, Emboar holds no weight at all. Even the Shadow variant won’t do well in battle and there are far better Fighting-type Pokémon available to you.

Overall it’s clear that all three Pokémon only excel when you’re using their Shadow variant. This quest, however, doesn’t offer you a Shadow Pokémon. Instead, it offers you a regular version of the Pokémon. Thankfully, this Pokémon will have slightly better stats than one caught in the wild! Due to this, I’d recommend aiming for either Emboar or Feraligatr.

You could, of course, put the battle meta aside completely and try to roll the shiny dice instead. There’s no guarantee you’ll get a shiny Pokémon from this quest, but, if you are incredibly lucky, you’ll get a shiny Pokémon with a Special Background. Quite the find! If you do want to risk it, then it’s best to pick the Pokémon you don’t have the shiny form for.

If you’re a newcomer to Pokémon Go though, you could always use this quest to fill in a missing entry in your Pokédex. Starter Pokémon are quite rare in Pokémon Go outside of in-game events, so this could be an easy way to fill in a troublesome Pokédex entry.

Finally, you can simply pick your favourite out of the three Pokémon! I’m personally taking this route and am picking Chikorita. Not only am I a massive Gen 2 fan, but Chikorita will be the starter Pokémon I’m going to pick in Legends: Z-A itself. I like having a little bit of symmetry between Pokémon Go and my choices in the mainline games when it comes to quests like this.
