Sorry Dispatch fans, there’s “no possibility” of an uncensored physical version on Switch
AdHoc has said there is “no possibility” of an uncensored physical version of its superhero workplace comedy Dispatch on Switch or Switch 2.
Last week, fans were disappointed to discover Dispatch was heavily censored on Switch and Switch 2 as standard, with characters’ nipples and penises covered with a black box by default, while noises of sexual pleasure were dampened down.
Soon after AdHoc announced Dispatch was censored on Switch consoles, Nintendo released its own statement on the issue, saying the company “requires all games on its platforms to receive ratings from independent organisations and to meet our established content and platform guidelines”.
Since then, AdHoc said it understood why its fans were “pissed”, and it is now working with Nintendo “on a path forward”. The Dispatch studio added that while it “can’t make any specific promises just yet”, it is “confident we’ll be able to push an update to address at least some of the censored content”, albeit in several weeks’ time due to the console submission process.
However, even with that being said, an uncensored Switch and Switch 2 physical version is not possible, according to a statement shared with GoNintendo. AdHoc added the discussion isn’t “currently relevant as there are no announcements regarding a physical release at this time”, despite previously hinting it would like to see a physical release of Dispatch.
GoNintendo also asked about the singular worldwide release discussion which has started to make the rounds following Dispatch’s Switch censorship discussion. The publication got the following response back from AdHoc’s PR: “AdHoc is legally unable to provide further comment on why separate SKUs were not possible for different regions.”
Despite this recent blip in public favour, Dispatch has been a huge success for AdHoc, and sold over 1m copies in just 10 days following its initial release last year.
Thanks to this success, the studio is now considering a second season, possibly with even more sex scenes given the “ravenous” response to the first season.
