What Was Savannah Guthrie’s Mom’s Health Like Before Going Missing?

Savannah Guthrie’s missing mom Nancy Guthrie could face “fatal” consequences if she’s not found in the next “24 hours,” officials claim.

Nancy—who shared Savannah and her two siblings Annie and Camron with her late husband Charles—went missing on Saturday, January 31, 2026, between 9:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. after she disappeared from her home in Catalina Foothills, Arizona, just outside of Tucson.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed that Nancy’s disappearance was being investigated as a crime at a press conference on Monday, February 2. “We believe now, after we’ve processed that crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime,” Nanos said.

While Nanos confirmed that Nancy’s disappearance was not “dementia-related,” he did note that she had “limited mobility” and that her case was being treated a a “vulnerable adult” due to her age. “She is very limited in mobility. We know she didn’t just walk out there, that we know. There are other things at the scene that indicate she did not leave on her own, we know that,” Nanos said. “Nancy Guthrie is of great sound and mind, this is not dementia related. She is as sharp as a tack. Her family wants everybody to know, this is not somebody that just wandered off.”

Nanos also revealed that if Nancy doesn’t take her necessary medication within 24 hours, the result “could be fatal.” “So we make a plea to anyone that knows anything about this, who has seen something, heard something, to contact us. Call 911,” he said. “Right now, we don’t see this as a search mission, as much as we do a crime scene.”

Nancy’s neighbors are also being asked to check their Ring cameras for any information about the “strange” crime. “There were a lot of dark vans with blacked out windows,” Morgan Brown, who lives “a quarter of a mile up the street” from Nancy, told Us Weekly. “There were a lot of cop cars there at first, and then it was vans, so I assumed that maybe they came across something.”

Brown also told the magazine that those living in the neighborhood are being told to “look at our Ring cameras to see if anything popped up out of the ordinary” and that the authorities are “narrowing” the time of the crime “down” to between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on February 1, 2026. “I don’t know how they know that,” Brown said. “My Ring cameras don’t face the street, but I went through them and haven’t heard that anyone found anything.”

Brown also reported that both “vans and helicopters” arrived at Nancy’s address on the afternoon of February 1. “They had a helicopter up looking for her. There are no sidewalks in our neighborhood,” Brown said. “You just walk on the street and then there’s desert, so [they] thought she walked off into the desert or something, but she walks with a cane, so I can’t imagine why she would do that. It’s desert-y, scrubby mesquite trees and cactus and rocks everywhere.”

He did clarify, however, that “a lot of people walk in that neighborhood,” not just in the early hours of the morning. “This is the foothills of Tucson,” he said. “If you step two feet off the road, you are basically in the thick of the cactus. It’s not gated at all.”

He continued, There are quite a bit of retirees and people who have lived in the neighborhood for a while. You don’t hear of a lot of weird stuff in the neighborhood.”

He concluded, “I can’t imagine what someone would want with an 84-year-old woman. The thought comes to my mind is maybe they are trying to get to Savannah somehow, political or whatnot. It’s horrible news.”
