Mystery Stomach Illness Outbreak Under Investigation In This NJ County
SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — Sussex County health officials are investigating a nasty stomach-related illness that is affecting several residents.
The Sussex County Division of Health has not determined exactly what the illness is, but symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches, chills, nausea, and fever.
Health officials have not identified any links between the patients at this time. Reports are coming in from “all across the county,” and no specific food item, restaurant, or location in general has been determined as a link to the illness.
It’s not clear if the illness is viral, bacterial, or something else. The county is not conducting testing for the illness, as the sick individuals should visit their doctor for testing.
Health department officials were not able to provide an exact number of reported illnesses as the investigation is still underway, but added that reports are still coming in “continuously.”
Sussex County officials said that reports began flooding in around Jan. 30. Most of the sick individuals recovered in one to three days, officials added.
Sussex County residents who believe they have contracted the mystery bug can report their symptoms and location by emailing [email protected].
