What Patriots coach said about Drake Maye getting sacked 6 times in Super Bowl
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The numbers for New England’s offensive linemen were ugly in a Super Bowl 60 loss to the Seahawks.
Second-year quarterback Drake Maye took six sacks and was hit 11 times. Patriots running backs averaged less than 3.5 yards per carry and Seattle recorded eight tackles for loss.
Still, Mike Vrabel wasn’t going to point the finger at his linemen after the 29-13 loss, deflecting blame to the entire team instead.
“Nobody played good enough for us to win,” Vrabel said.
Asked about the six sacks of Maye specifically, Vrabel said it’s too simple to assume those are all just offensive line breakdowns.
“Sacks are — that’s a team number,” Vrabel said. “Whether we block them every time and the quarterback is responsible or whether there is somewhere to go with the football. There were times throughout there were sacks where somebody got beat, there were times when it was on the quarterback, and there was times where it was on the guys we were throwing to. So I’m sure that one of those three things led to the six sacks that we had.”
Next Gen Stats said Patriots rookie Will Campbell had a particularly rough night. They had the left tackle down for 14 pressures, the most for any Patriots lineman in a game (regular season or playoffs) since the 2018 season.
