Tiger Woods’ son Charlie makes his college golf decision

The son of one of the greatest golfers in the sport’s history is headed to Tallahassee.

Charlie Woods, the 17-year-old son of Tiger Woods, announced that he had committed to play collegiate golf at Florida State in an Instagram post Tuesday.

Charlie Woods wrote in the caption: “Excited to announce my commitment to play golf at Florida State University — go Noles!” He is in his junior year at the Benjamin School, located in Palm Beach, Fla., and has helped the high school program win two state championships in his three years there.

Currently ranked No. 21 in the American Junior Golf Association rankings, Charlie Woods will be joining the AJGA’s top-ranked player Miles Russell at FSU after he verbally committed to play there last year.

Both are part of the class of 2027 and have competed against each other.

FSU head coach Trey Jones made a push to recruit Charlie Woods and took in the FHSAA 1A state championship, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

Florida State managed to sway Charlie Woods over other well-known golf programs, including his father’s alma mater, Stanford. Tiger Woods’ eldest child, Sam, is currently a freshman at Stanford this year.

“It’s been very different, the recruiting process,” Tiger Woods told reporters at the Hero World Challenge last year, according to ESPN. “Now, you have cellphones. We didn’t have cell phones. We would have written letters that would show up in the mailbox. It’s just very different how fast coaches can communicate with the family members and the player that they’re trying to recruit.

“It’s just a different world. Not saying it’s good or bad, it’s just different.”

Florida State’s golf program has proven to produce some of the game’s big names, including alumnus Brooks Koepka.

Charlie Woods became the youngest competitor at the age of 11 to compete in the PNC Championship in 2020 while playing with his father, and the pair finished as runners-up to John Daly and John Daly II.

Having turned 17 on Sunday, Charlie Woods recorded his lone AJGA win at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May 2025, and he finished in a tie for ninth at the Junior PGA Championship last summer.
