Elisabeth Moss to Star in Hulu Series ‘Conviction’ From David Shore
Hulu has ordered a series version of the Jack Jordan novel “Conviction” with Elisabeth Moss attached to play the lead role, Variety has learned.
David Shore is adapting the book for the small screen and will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. Moss is also executive producing under her Love & Squalor Pictures banner in addition to starring. Warren Littlefield, who worked with Moss and Hulu on both “The Handmaid’s Tale” and the upcoming series “The Testaments,” will executive produce for The Littlefield Co.
“Conviction” was originally published in 2023. Per the official logline, “Criminal defense attorney Neve Harper (Moss), a confident lawyer, finally has her shot at a career-making case: a high-profile murder where the husband is accused of killing his wife by setting their home on fire. But when a mysterious stranger begins blackmailing Neve, she is forced to compromise every legal, moral, and ethical obligation to gain an acquittal – or else risk her dark secrets being exposed.”
Shore is executive producing under his Shore Z Productions banner along with Erin Gunn. Jordan is also an executive producer, as are Ann Johnson and Lisa Harrison of The Littlefield Co. Bert Salke executive produces via Co-Lab21 along with Lindsey McManus of Love & Squalor. 20th Television is the studio. Both Shore and Littlefield are currently under overall deals with 20th TV, while Jordan has a multi-year development deal there as well.
Moss starred in “The Handmaid’s Tale” throughout its six-season run at Hulu. She received four Emmy nominations for outstanding lead actress in a drama for the show, winning the award in 2017. She also shared in the show’s four nominations for best drama series, which it also won in 2017. She is currently an executive producer on “The Testaments,” which will bow on Hulu on April 8.
Moss has received seven other Emmy nominations in her career — six for “Mad Men” and one for “Top of the Lake.” She will next be seen in the Apple TV series “Imperfect Women” opposite Kerry Washington and Kate Mara.
She is repped by WME, Ocean Avenue, Ribisi Entertainment Group and Hansen Jacobson.
Shore is perhaps best known for creating the hit Fox medical drama “House” starring Hugh Laurie, which ran for eight seasons. He followed that up with the hit ABC drama “The Good Doctor,” which ended after seven seasons in 2024. His other TV writing credits include “Sneaky Pete,” “Accused,” and “Law & Order.”
He is repped by CAA, The Shuman Co., and attorney Bill Sobel.
In addition to “Conviction,” Jordan is currently developing a series version of his novel “Deception” with 20th TV. He is also working an adaptation of the novel “Redemption” with Disney Entertainment’s International Originals EMEA team, from 20th TV, The Littlefield Co, Co-Lab 21 and Riff Raff Entertainment.
Jordan is repped by Madeleine Milburn Agency, WME, and FKKS.
