Robert De Niro labeled President Donald Trump’s top aide, Stephen Miller, a “Nazi” during a widespread rant about the Trump administration.
While appearing on MSNBC’s “The Weekend” on Sunday, the Oscar winner, 82, made the comments after arguing that Trump will force his way into a third term in the White House.
“We see it, we see it, we see it … all the time — he will not want to leave. He set it up with … I guess he’s the Goebbels of the cabinet, Stephen Miller. He’s a Nazi,” De Niro said of Miller while comparing him to the Nazi Party’s chief propagandist, Joseph Goebbels.
The “Goodfellas” star added, “Yes, he is and [Miller’s] Jewish, and he should be ashamed of himself.”
Miller, Trump’s Department of Homeland Security adviser, has been a key player in the Trump administration’s crackdown on its hardline immigration policies as he’s pushed for an increase in aggressive Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.
Co-host Jonathan Capehart then asked De Niro about a post the White House made on X in response to the nationwide “No Kings” protests Saturday.
In the post, the Trump administration juxtaposed a doctored image of Trump and Vice President JD Vance wearing crowns alongside a depiction of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer sporting sombreros.
“It’s all nonsense. We know it’s all racist … I mean, that’s what he appeals to, that’s what Trump is … It’s not going to change,” the actor replied. “We have to keep fighting and pushing until he is out. Period.”
Asked about Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops into Democratic-led cities, De Niro called the controversial move a “psychological” tactic.
″[Trump] is going to get [the military] to intimidate when the [election] midterms come [in 2026]. It’s … psychological. He’s going to wear on people … we have to have a defense against that, an opposition,” he argued. “We have to be strong to counter that kind of situation when it comes … it’s better to neutralize it now than to worry about it later.”
The “Meet the Parents” star went on to warn Americans to “be ready” for Trump’s impending “intimidation” strategy.
“It’s going to be the [risk of losing the] freedom to walk into the polling station to vote without being intimidated. It’s all about intimidation,” he added.
Elsewhere in the interview, De Niro praised California Governor Gavin Newsom for frequently trolling Trump on social media.
“I like what Newsom has done because he’s trolled [Trump] and he’s fought fire with fire, and that’s what you have to do. And he called [Trump] an ‘invasive species’, which is what he is,” he continued. “Trump does not understand anything about humanity … he has no empathy. I don’t know what he is but he’s an alien.”
De Niro then claimed that Trump wants to “hurt this country.”
“It’s something deeply psychological in him … he doesn’t care. What upsets me the most is that people follow him and … they kiss his ass,” he added. “I don’t understand it.”
