Joe Jonas, of Jonas Brothers fame, shared his thoughts about fellow singer, Taylor Swift‘s most recent album, The Life of a Showgirl, which came out on October 3.
Us Weekly reported that Joe briefly discussed Swift’s 12th album during an October 2025 interview with Esquire, alongside his brothers and bandmates Kevin and Nick Jonas. Joe, who had a romance with Swift in 2008, stated that he hadn’t heard all of the songs from The Life of a Showgirl. He said, however, that he is impressed with the songs he had listened to.
“I think she’s obviously the biggest artist out there, and I think it’s good,” said Joe to Esquire.
He also seemed to reference that The Life of a Showgirl has received mixed reviews. For instance, while Rolling Stone gave the album five out of five stars, The Life of a Showgirl received a score of 5.9 out of 10 from Pitchfork.
“Everybody’s got an opinion about it, but from what I’ve heard, there are some catchy melodies,” said Joe during the interview with Esquire.
Us Weekly reported that Swift reacted to the criticism she has received for The Life of a Showgirl during an October 7 interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. She suggested she wasn’t overly upset by the less-than-positive reviews from some critics and fans.
“The rule of show business is, if it’s the first week of my album release and you are saying either my name or my album title, you’re helping,” said Swift, who is engaged to NFL player Travis Kelce, in the October 7 interview.

Us Weekly reported that Swift said Joe broke up with her after a months-long relationship during an extremely brief phone call in a 2008 Ellen DeGeneres Show interview. In a 2019 interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Swift suggested that she regretted putting “Joe Jonas on blast” for the breakup phone call. She also clarified that she and Joe were in a good place.
“That was too much. We laugh about it now,” said Swift in the 2019 Ellen DeGeneres Show appearance.
While Swift and Joe didn’t last, their relationship brought her a close friendship with actress and singer Selena Gomez. In an August 2025 interview on Jake Shane’s podcast, Therapuss, Gomez said that she and Swift bonded because she dated Nick while the “Speak Now” singer was in a relationship with Joe.
“We were like young. We all know and love each other now and it’s so cute. We didn’t know what we were doing. But she and I like to say the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other, because it was really sweet. I was about 15. She was 17, about 18,” said Gomez in the podcast interview.
She then said she and Swift “became best friends” after they “bonded over the breakups” from the Jonas Brothers.
“Then we just stuck around for all the ups and downs that came after, and here we are now 16 years later,” said Gomez, who is married to Benny Blanco, in the interview.
