“I’m sick of having to repeat myself” – Crimson Desert PR shuts down accusations it’s “hiding” console footage ahead of imminent launch
Crimson Desert’s marketing director is “sick of having to repeat” himself, as some express concern Pearl Abyss is “hiding” console footage of the open-world action adventure game.
Earlier today, Pearl Abyss’s PR and Marketing Director Will Powers took it upon himself to shut down a social media user who claimed the team was deliberately keeping console footage under wraps. “We’re not hiding anything, and I’m sick of having to repeat myself,” Powers responded, adding that Pearl Abyss will “reveal things ahead of launch to give people adequate time to still preorder the game for themselves”.
This is something Powers said he has had to repeat “100s of times” already.
“We’re saying this openly… Let us cook? Please and thank you. /rant,” Powers’ post on X closed.
However, many were quick to draw comparisons to developer CDPR, which ahead of Cyberpunk 2077’s less than stellar launch back in 2020 also kept its console footage out of the public eye. “I think being transparent and giving reviewers keys to the console version would show some confidence,” came one such reply from known Rockstar insider @videotechuk_.
Powers shared a follow up post over on reddit, stating: “People have the right to information to make an informed purchase. Simply put, that’s transparency, and that’s what we’re promising. But people demanding information on their timeline is entitlement, and that needs to end.”
Again, many remained somewhat sceptical about Crimson Desert’s lack of console showing. “Is he trying to Cyberpunk console players?” asked one reply, while others said they were putting off pre-ordering on consoles until they see something more concrete on either Xbox or PlayStation.
“I sympathise with his position but also we are not even three weeks away from launch and we don’t even know a /target framerate/,” one commenter noted. “Literally just a bit of footage would help unless you’re REALLY cutting that optimisation period down to the wire.”
As a reminder, Crimson Desert is set for release across Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC later this month, on 19th March.
Earlier this month, Pearl Abyss announced Crimson Desert had surpassed 3m Wishlists over on Steam. The team also added no AI voice acting would be used for the NPCs in the game.
