‘9-1-1’ & ‘9-1-1: Nashville’ Renewed By ABC
ABC has locked its Ryan Murphy duo of 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville for 2026-27. Veteran 9-1-1 has been renewed for Season 10, freshman 9-1-1: Nashville has been picked up for a second season.
On paper, these were easy decisions — 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville both rank in the Top 10 dramas among Adults 18-49 in multi-platform viewing over seven days, with 9-1-1: Nashville standing as TV’s No. 1 new drama in the demo.
Still, there were factors in play, especially for offshoot Nashville.
9-1-1 remains one of ABC’s most watched scripted series, recently logging its best multi-platform audience since the season premiere. However, it is an expensive nine-year-old drama series filming in Los Angeles with a big star as the lead, Angela Bassett, and noisy, elaborate natural disaster-themed yearly stunts. The show’s big budget was one of the reasons it moved from its original home Fox to ABC, whose sister studio 20th Television produces the 9-1-1 franchise. The mothership underwent above-the-line cost downward correction toward the end of last season when Bassett’s co-lead, Peter Krause, exited.

It has been a rollercoaster ride for 9-1-1: Nashville. After a solid start, the spinoff hit bumps, with the ratings tapering off and hitting a low in the fall finale and staying low in its winter return, with Nashville holding onto just over half of its sizable 9-1-1 lead-in. Undergoing a course correction, including some retooling, the offshoot has started to hit its stride, scoring series highs in both total viewers and adults 18-49 with its January 29 episode. The momentum has continued since, with its timing solidifying the series’ renewal chances.
ABC and 20th TV have been high on 9-1-1 veteran and Nashville co-creator, executive producer and showrunner Rashad Rasani who recently re-upped his overall deal at the studio.
