Eric Dane’s Memoir, Completed Shortly Before His Death, Due This Fall
Eric Dane completed his autobiography shortly before his death, following a 10-month battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), last month. In accordance with the Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria actor’s wishes, My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments, will come out on Nov. 3.
The book’s publisher describes the work as “deeply personal” and “a reflection on family, resilience, faith, sobriety, fatherhood, and what it means to live fully in the face of terminal illness.” He had both his daughters and general readers in mind while writing.

“I wake up every morning, and I’m immediately reminded that this is real — this illness, this challenge and that’s exactly why I’m writing this book,” Dane wrote in a quote provided by the publisher. “I want to capture the moments that shaped me — the beautiful days, the hard ones, the ones I never took for granted — so that if nothing else, people who read it will remember what it means to live with heart. If sharing this helps someone find meaning in their own days, then my story is worth telling.”
“He told me he wanted his family to know how much he loved them, and he wanted to leave them a story they could be proud of,” Maria Shriver, who owns publisher the Open Field, said in a statement.
Dane was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, last April. He died of respiratory failure related to the disease, which causes muscular failure, on Feb. 19 at age 53.
The actor broke through on TV shows like Roseanne and Married … With Children in the Nineties before hitting his stride on shows like Charmed and Grey’s Anatomy, where he earned the nickname “McSteamy.” “Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight,” his family said in a statement following his death. “He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always.”
