Nintendo has now set a new record for the most expensive amiibo ever
The situation with amiibo pricing seems to be taking another turn as it now looks like the figure line has hit a new record price.
The news only applies to the Kirby Air Riders series – at least for now. Nintendo dated the King Dedede & Tank Star figure for July 2 a few days ago. Unfortunately, it’s costing more than fans had hoped.
Right now you can pre-order the King Dedede & Tank Star amiibo at Best Buy for $55 here. This is odd to some because Kirby & Warp Star launched for $50. Meta Knight & Shadow Star was also initially expected to be $50, but Nintendo just released it at $45 this week (you can get it right now here) with it receiving a price cut a few weeks before launch.
It actually looked like Nintendo was on its way to reducing amiibo prices overall, not increasing them. We mentioned Meta Knight & Shadow Star, but similar cuts happened with the Super Mario Galaxy figures coming in April. Read more about that here.
There is one thing to consider here. The Tank Star is a bit special since it can transform, just like in the game. You can set the vehicle either as its ground form or gliding form.
Still, if this teaches us anything, it’s that you can’t really go in with a certain expectation with amiibo prices. Some may be lower than expected, but it looks like some can be more expensive than anticipated.
The news is also timely as we just delved into Nintendo’s new approach to amiibo and the trending upward cost. In case you missed it, find our analysis here.
