The best signing for Seattle Seahawks was by another team
With the legal tampering period in full swing and the official start of free agency a day way, the NFL offseason is truly off and running.
Bump: Who Seahawks could draft at RB to address losing Walker
The Seattle Seahawks haven’t been one of the loudest teams, but they have reportedly made a couple of key deals in re-signing wide receiver/return man Rashid Shaheed and cornerback Josh Jobe.
When asked which signing could be the most beneficial for the Seahawks long-term, former NFL quarterback Brock Huard went a different direction than looking at the players Seattle has retained. He actually thinks it’s a deal involving a former Seahawk who is reportedly signing with a new team.
“I think the biggest signing yesterday for the Seattle Seahawks was Boye Mafe getting three years and $60 million in Cincinnati,” Huard said during his Blue 88 segment on Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk on Tuesday. “… This is how you kind of prime the pump to get it going. Boye Mafe signing for $20 million a year will give further evidence to every possible guy who doesn’t get what he wants, who’s looking at a market and saying, yep, (Seattle) is where I need to go. If Boye Mafe with two sacks gets three years and $60 million, and I am coming off of my first contract and I’m out there – and there’s going to be some young guys in this spot, there’s going to be some veterans in this spot – that’s where I want to go.
“I’m going to go play there. I’m going to go play in that system, I’m going to go play in that scheme and personnel grouping around me, and I want to go play in that stadium where I have a chance to truly prime the pump for my career.”

While Mafe’s reported big-money deal with the Bengals could make coming to Seattle attractive to edge rushers looking to earn a pay day, co-host Mike Salk wondered how it could impact retaining a player like Derick Hall, who is set to hit free agency after next season.
Huard wasn’t very concerned.
“You’re so now incentivized if you’re Derick Hall for this upcoming new season,” Huard said. “And then you find the next Derick Hall, and then you find the next Boye Mafe, and then you find the next one. And you know what? They all want to be here, they all want to be a part of it.”
