Microsoft Will Add Gaming Copilot To Xbox Series Consoles in 2026
I’m excited to announce that later this year, we will bring Gaming Copilot to the current-generation consoles, and we will continue to bring it to more services that players are playing.
As we discussed in our original reporting of Gaming Copilot, linked above, the feature was enabled by default, and by default it was sending text obtained from screenshots and screen recordings via OCR for training of the models behind the service. This could be a violation of European users’ rights under the GDPR, and it also presents privacy or even legal concerns for those unknowingly using Gaming Copilot, especially for those working on or testing unreleased games. While Gaming Copilot was enabled by default, the feature could be disabled in settings, although it’s unclear at the time of writing if it will be enabled by default on current-gen consoles when it arrives. It’s also safe to assume that if Gaming Copilot is coming to the current console generation, that it will be a feature in the upcoming Xbox Project Helix, which will be a PC-console hybrid and looks to be planned for a 2028 launch.
