‘They need to move forward’

One Pro Football Hall of Famer and Pittsburgh Steelers luminary is admittedly experiencing Aaron Rodgers fatigue.

Rodgers has yet to announce a decision on his playing future, much less if he’ll be rejoining Pittsburgh. Rod Woodson, an 11-time Pro Bowler who played 10 seasons with the Steelers, has had enough of the waiting game.

“Is he gonna play? Listen, I get kinda tired of it,” Woodson said during a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. “Listen, if he’s gonna play, say he’s gonna play, he’s gonna come back. And the team shouldn’t wait for Aaron Rodgers. They need to move forward.”

Last year, Rodgers joined the Steelers after a disappointing two-year run with the New York Jets. However, Rodgers didn’t end up inking with Pittsburgh until June.

Stating that he was “pretty sure” 2025 would be his final season shortly after agreeing to his one-year deal with the Steelers, Rodgers’ sentiments changed a bit as the season hit its final stretch. So, the Rodgers waiting game is now drifting through March and the Steelers hold one of the murkiest situations at quarterback.

Soon-to-be-second-year signal-caller Will Howard and Mason Rudolph are the only QBs currently on Pittsburgh’s roster.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, general manager Omar Khan indicated the team was open to having Rodgers back but hoped a decision would come earlier than it did the year prior. Rodgers later said there was no deadline for a decision as he had received, “No contract offer or anything. So, there’s nothing I’m having to debate between. I’m a free agent. Again, I’m enjoying my time with my wife and enjoying this part of the offseason. I think there’s conversations to be had down the line. But right now, I’m not. … There hasn’t been any progressive conversations.”

Along with no conversations, there have been no updates since Rodgers’ March 4 conversations in his familiar setting of The Pat McAfee Show.

Woodson would like his former franchise to move on from the delays and drama, but Rodgers has made a career of succeeding under pressure on the field and it’s unlikely he’ll be hurried to make any decision off of it.

During his decorated run with the Green Bay Packers, which included four AP NFL MVP honors, Rodgers also had some summers of indecisions over his last few seasons.

“What is it with these ex-Green Bay Packers quarterbacks that they have to be talked about all the time,” Woodson said. “Cause Brett Favre was that way for years. Remember how we used to have to talk about Brett Favre, talk about Brett Favre.”

Regardless of whether Rodgers returns to the Steelers or not, Woodson knows the 42-year-old only offers a short-term solution. He’s upset Pittsburgh didn’t solve its long-term issues in the 2025 draft.

“They should’ve taken Jaxson Dart,” said Woodson of the New York Giants’ starting quarterback, who was taken 25th overall — after the Steelers picked Derrick Harmon at No. 21. “He fell to them. It was the best opportunity for them to take that quarterback who has that swag, kinda fit into that Steeler mold.”

“And now, what are they looking for? That quarterback of the future still.”

Indeed, the Steelers are still looking and still waiting for an answer at quarterback.
