Highguard players are getting automatic refunds as developer appears to shut down
Sony is automatically refunding Highguard players for extra content purchases following the game’s shutdown, just weeks after release.
Reports from players on Reddit show refunds being issued without requests, with one user saying: “I honestly didn’t care for a refund. I enjoyed the game and enjoyed supporting it, but if you were looking for a refund, they are sending them out.”
Highguard launched on January 26, and drew strong early interest, almost reaching 100,000 concurrent players on Steam, but the player count dropped off quickly in the days that followed.
Developer Wildlight attempted to address feedback with updates, including adding 5v5 mode after complaints about its original 3v3 format. Despite those changes, the studio was hit with layoffs not long after launch, before confirming the game would shut down on March 12.
The refunds appear to be limited to PlayStation, as similar reports have not surfaced from players on other platforms, like Steam or Xbox.
The situation has drawn comparisons to Concord, another PlayStation-backed live-service title that was taken offline shortly after release amid low player numbers. Its developer, Firewalk Studios, was later closed.
The future of Wildlight Entertainment is now uncertain, but the company’s LinkedIn page has been deleted, and the website is no longer available either.
Chad Grenier, who founded and headed the studio, has marked his time at Wildlight as ending in March 2026 on his LinkedIn.
