If you’re noticing freezing and crashing issues for the Spotify app on Android as of late, you’re not alone, as an ongoing issue causes the app to run into numerous issues when connected to certain Wi-Fi networks.

As noted by dozens of user reports on Spotify’s forums, the Spotify app for Android is running into some serious issues as of late. Users say that the app is running poorly, freezing, or even crashing, leaving it mostly unusable. The issue popped up about two weeks ago and has since been officially acknowledged by Spotify.

Spotify sums up the issue saying:

We’ve received reports from Android users (mainly Samsung and Google Pixel) experiencing issues where the Spotify app becomes unresponsive, freezes, or crashes when connected to certain WiFi networks. The issue doesn’t occur while using mobile data.

The company goes on to mention that its teams are “currently looking into this,” but there’s no word just yet on a fix.

The problem doesn’t appear to be universal, but it’s affecting a lot of users which implies it’s not just a beta issue. Spotify mentions that primarily Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel owners are affected. Anecdotally we’ve noticed some slowdowns in the app as of late, but no crashes.

Some users speculate that the issue may be related to Chromecast-ready devices. This would explain why these crashing issues are solely happening on Wi-Fi, but not when the device is connected to mobile data or offline.

Whatever the root cause is, Spotify is working on a fix, so it’s just a matter of time at this point.
