Logan Thompson mask featured in Apple’s ‘Made on iPad’ campaign
Logan Thompson is one of six goaltenders this season participating in an Apple “Made on iPad x NHL” campaign. The mask designs were created by artists on an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil Pro, utilizing 3D templates in Procreate for sketching and rendering.
Thompson’s “Dueling Eagles Mask” is featured in the promotion. The bucket was painted by renowned mask artist Dave Fried and is inspired by LT’s eagle bucket from last season. A bald eagle, along with the Capitals’ wordmark logo, is illustrated on each side, while the United States Capitol is featured at the crown of the mask. Thompson’s number 48 is front and center on the chin in front of a large star.
The five other goalies who had masks featured in the Apple iPad campaign include Anthony Stolarz of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Thatcher Demko of the Vancouver Canucks, Dustin Wolf of the Calgary Flames, Adin Hill of the Vegas Golden Knights, and Sam Montembeault of the Montreal Canadiens.
“It used to be if a change had to be made, to make a part of the design bigger or smaller (on a mask), that all had to be redone,” Jordon Bourgeault, the Calgary-based painter behind Stolarz’s and Montembeault’s designs, told NHL.com. “Now with iPad, especially the M5, it’s so powerful and fast, you can make changes very easily and send it back to the customer. It’s the only thing I use.”
He added, “I moved to iPad about four or five years ago. I don’t think I have turned on my desktop since. It’s sped up the process and led to way better approval rates from customers, and it will make it that much better when I go to actually paint the mask.”
Not only are the custom masks highlighted on Apple’s website and in digital ads, but they are also utilized in the gameplay of EA Sports’ NHL 26 video game.
Thompson’s mask is also featured in a giant advertisement on the side of Capital One Arena facing 6th and F street, reading “Made on iPad for Thompson.”

The iPad ad is not the first time Apple has worked with Monumental Sports on a promotion. In 2019, the global technology company used a photo of Alex Ovechkin taken by Nicklas Backstrom for a large banner promoting the iPhone XS and its powerful dual-camera system.
