What stood out from Mets’ nearly perfect Opening Day
It’s hard to envision a more perfect Opening Day for the Mets.
Key acquisition Freddy Peralta won his Mets debut, the defense looked solid (especially compared to Pittsburgh’s) and the lineup appeared relentless — they accomplished something never done before in knocking Pirates superstar Paul Skenes out in the first.
Here’s what I observed on Day 1:
1. While the lineup isn’t as powerful without Mets all-time homer king Pete Alonso, it’s more persistent. It recorded 11 hits and nine walks, and the mistake-prone Pirates were fortunate to keep the Mets’ victory to 11-7.
