And … Action
Alexandra I’d gone cross-country skiing earlier, so I showered and napped to prepare.
Lee I exercised in the morning and took a power nap to refresh.
Alexandra I was a couple of minutes early, which I was proud of myself for!
Lee I was a little bit nervous. I waited by the host stand and a woman around my age came in; I figured it was her.
Alexandra The host introduced us. He was tall but not necessarily my type.
Lee She had a bright, attractive smile, and a kind expression; pretty.
Cue Cards
Alexandra We talked about where we were from and what we did over the weekend. He had been to a wine expo so that led nicely into ordering wine.
Lee Alexandra was a travel nurse who’d live across the country in many places, so, naturally, travel came up. We talked about hobbies and interests, too. She recommended a band to me (Próxima Parada) and I told her about a movie she’d like (Being John Malkovich).
Alexandra We had a lot in common, playing tennis in high school and getting back into it recently, enjoying travel and hiking.
Lee We both enjoy traveling, the outdoors, music, food, and volunteering. Family is also important to us. I am hiking Peru in August and she had spent time there and gave me some good travel tips.
Alexandra It was steak frites Sunday so we both ordered steak frites.
Lee We each got bavette steaks with salads, and split a crème brûlée at the end. We enjoyed the wine enough to each get a second glass.
Alexandra I felt pretty comfortable with him and got more comfortable as the date went on. Unfortunately, I did not feel any romantic chemistry, even though we had a lot of good conversations.
Lee She has a bubbly, easygoing personality. She gives off a really warm energy and it made me feel good. Toward the end of the date, when we started sharing more personal topics about family and volunteering for those less fortunate, I felt enough of a connection growing that I wanted to ask her out again.
Final Cut
Alexandra We did not do anything together after the meal.
Lee We closed the restaurant down. There wasn’t much open in Boston so we decided to head home.
Alexandra We agreed on exchanging numbers to maybe do some of our shared activities together as friends.
Lee I offered her my number as I wanted to see her again. She said she viewed me more as a potential friend than a romantic partner. I was a little disappointed but accepted that.
Alexandra We said goodbye with a friendly hug.
Lee We shared a goodbye hug.
Second Date?
Alexandra We won’t go on another date, but we may hang out as friends.
Lee Not another date, but hope to spend more time with her as friends. We share a lot of interests and I had a fun time.
