Joseph Duggar Vanishes After Jail Release Amid Child Abuse Case
Joseph Duggar’s location is currently unknown after the former 19 Kids & Counting star was released from an Arkansas jail and transferred out of state as part of the extradition process tied to his pending Florida case. Online records show Duggar, 31, left the Washington County Detention Center in Fayetteville on March 27, but as of Monday, March 30, he had not yet appeared in the Bay County Sheriff’s Office inmate database.
According to Us Weekly, Florida prosecutors have not yet formally filed charges in the case. Duggar had spent nine days in Arkansas custody following his March 18 arrest in Tontitown. He is expected to face multiple felony counts in Bay County, including lewd and lascivious molestation involving a child under 12 and lewd conduct by an adult.
The latest development adds another layer to a case that has continued to expand since Duggar’s arrest earlier this month. In addition to the Florida allegations, Arkansas authorities later charged Duggar with four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment.
His wife, Kendra Duggar, was also arrested on related Arkansas charges before being released on bond. According to a source who spoke to Us Weekly, her arrest stemmed from conditions discovered during a child welfare review of the family home rather than the allegations against Joseph Duggar.
The case first came to light after a now-14-year-old girl alleged that Duggar abused her during a family vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida, in 2020, when she was 9 years old. During a forensic interview, the girl told investigators that Duggar repeatedly asked her to sit with him and later touched her inappropriately while they sat under a blanket.
According to the affidavit, the girl said she felt “uncomfortable” and “confused” during the incidents. Investigators also said that Duggar later apologized and that the contact stopped.
Authorities also say the investigation intensified after the girl’s father confronted Duggar earlier this month. During that conversation, Duggar allegedly acknowledged what had happened. In a later phone call, he reportedly told the father that he had touched the child over her clothing and admitted that his “intentions were not pure.”
The Duggar family has a long history in reality television and previous legal scandals involving their older brother, Josh Duggar. The original 19 Kids & Counting series was canceled in 2015 after allegations involving Josh became public, and he later received a lengthy federal prison sentence in a separate case involving child sexual abuse material.
Anyone who suspects child abuse or sexual assault is encouraged to report it. In the United States, confidential help is available through the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453) or via childhelphotline.org.
