Gracie Hunt engaged to son of former Chiefs quarterback
Gracie Hunt, daughter of Kansas City Chiefs CEO and owner Clark Hunt and his wife, Tavia Hunt, announced her engagement on Holy Saturday with a Bible verse.
She said yes to Derek Green, the son of former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green. The two went public with their relationship in May 2025, foreshadowing a merger of two NFL families.
“It was always you,” Hunt wrote on Instagram. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28.”
The proposal was a family affair, with both sets of parents and siblings on hand.
Hunt didn’t identify the location, or when the event took place. But a carousel of photos shows the proposal took place among desert cactus. Green got down on one knee on a stage covered with white curtains and flanked by two tall towers of lush white flowers.
Candles in glass candleholders lined a long white walkway leading to the platform.
One photo showed Hunt’s vintage-feel engagement ring close up – a large cushion-cut diamond with a diamond-encrusted split shank containing a colored stone, possibly an aquamarine, Hunt’s March birthstone.
Thousands of congratulations and well wishes poured in.
Last May, Hunt posted a series of photos on her Instagram revealing she and Green were dating.
“My heart is full,” Hunt wrote at the time.
“Grateful for some much-needed time to rest, reflect, and reset after a whirlwind few months post-football season. So thankful for time with the people who keep me grounded, remind me I’m loved, and never fail to make me laugh. Swipe for a few favorite snapshots from life lately.”
She had teased to a new relationship the month before in an Instagram photo that showed her hugging an unidentified man at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
She wrote: “After meeting 7.5 years ago in this place… all along there was some invisible string.”
Green had also attended last year’s White House Correspondents Dinner with Hunt, though she didn’t identify him in those photos.
Trent Green was with the Chiefs for six seasons (2001-07). Derek is the second-oldest of Green’s three children.
Like his father, Derek played football for Rockhurst High School, at Southern Methodist University — also Gracie’s alma mater; Long Island University; and for teams in Italy, France and Sweden.
He put his SMU business administration degree to work when he joined Creative Planning financial services as a sports operations manager.
Since going public, Hunt has shared numerous photos and videos of the couple — and the two families together — on her social media.
“Forever looks so beautiful on these two,” Tavia Hunt wrote Saturday on her Instagram, where she also shared photos of the proposal.
“On this holy weekend, we celebrate one of God’s most beautiful gifts — the beginning of a covenant story.
“God brought these two together in such a special way, and our hearts are overflowing with joy.
“What He has written is already so good. We are so grateful for His hand in their lives and so excited for all that lies ahead.”
Hunt’s young sister, Ava, commented on their mother’s post: “I’m sitting here beaming with joy just looking at this!!”
In the comments, Green thanked Tavia “for all of your help! So excited to become a part of the fam!!”
“I always wanted another son!” Tavia responded. “Praising God for the amazing man you are and for your parents who did THE BEST JOB!! We love you so much DG!”
Now there are two big Chiefs weddings in the offing. Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are expected to tie the knot sometime this summer.
No date revealed yet for the Hunt-Green merger.
