Matt Schmidt of Schmidt’s killed in house fire in Upper Arlington
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — One person was killed in a house fire early Sunday in Upper Arlington.
That person is now known to be Matt Schmidt of Schmidt’s.
The Upper Arlington Fire Division responded to a fire at home located on the 3800 block of Chevington Road just after 4:30 a.m.
A woman and three children were able to safely escape the home.
While firefighters were searching through the home for additional people, they found a man on the first floor. His death has been confirmed.
A press release from Schmidt’s shared the following:
“There are no words to describe the tragic loss of Matt Schmidt. Matt was first and foremost a devoted and loving husband to his wife and a father to his three young daughters. Matt was also a fifth generation Schmidt family member and his magnetic personality, kindness and service to all he met – both personally and professionally – made him the face of Schmidt’s. He was the best of us and lived out our values of family, hospitality and service every day of his life. We thank everyone who has reached out for their care and concern during this devastating time for the Schmidt family.”
