Trump Slams SCOTUS For A Truly Ridiculous Reason In Middle-Of-The-Night Rant
Uh oh, did someone feed President Donald Trump after midnight? Because his argument in his latest middle-of-the night meltdown is about as goofy as the premise for “Gremlins.”
In the wee hours of Monday morning, Trump decided to rage against the Supreme Court as it considers whether to allow him to do away with birthright citizenship.
The president began his post — which was published at the very normal time of 12:57 a.m. — by scolding the justices for not considering an argument against birthright citizenship made by a Fox News host on Sunday night.
“It’s too bad that the Supreme Court can’t watch and study the Mark Levin Show tonight on the Birthright Citizenship Scam,” Trump began. “If they saw it they would never allow that money making HOAX to continue. THEY SHOULD USE THEIR POWERS OF COMMON SENSE FOR THE GOOD OF OUR COUNTRY.”
Birthright citizenship was enshrined in the Constitution after the Civil War. Section 1 of the 14th Amendment states, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”
The Trump administration — as well as Levin on his show “Life, Liberty & Levin” Sunday night — has argued that the phrase “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” does not apply to children of undocumented immigrants.
“You on the court, you get to decide now on a big issue. You should leave it to the people and our elected representatives, or the amendment process with a legislative process,” Levin said. “But you, if you rule on this and constitutionalize this, will be known as the most activist court in the history of the Supreme Court, and the damage is incalculable.”
Last week, the nation’s highest court heard oral arguments on whether the U.S. should stop granting citizenship to the children of undocumented immigrants, as an executive order signed by Trump proposes. The president showed up in person at the Supreme Court to watch.
However, to Trump’s disappointment, even justices he nominated appeared highly skeptical and even irritated by the arguments Trump’s lawyers made.
In his early Monday post, Trump also complained that the Supreme Court didn’t just do what he wanted on a tariff-related ruling in February.
“They failed miserably on Tariffs, needlessly costing the USA Hundreds of Billions of Dollars in potential rebates for the benefit haters and scammers. Why??? Don’t do it again!” Trump warned. “The Country can only withstand so many bad decisions from a Court that just doesn’t seem to care.”
