‘Borderlands 4’ Has The Worst Halloween Event I’ve Ever Seen

Since release, I’ve put 170 hours into Borderlands 4, which I would consider the best game in the series at this point. High praise, given that I’ve liked them all. So when something is bad, it has to be really bad for me to notice. And Borderlands 4 has just released what is literally the worst Halloween “event,” if you can call it that, I’ve ever seen.

The Horrors of Kairos event is…effectively nothing. The entire thing has been condensed into randomly appearing bubbles on the map, something that already appears in the base game. You go inside, kill an existing random boss, and that’s it. The “Halloween” aspect here is a red tint to things sometimes, and the fact that you then open a crate to try to get a Halloween grenade or assault rifle. The boss won’t even actually drop it on the ground.

In the context of the game, this is ridiculous. These bubbles are almost impossible to predict where and when they will spawn, and you can drive around forever and not see one. Occasionally, there will be a little triangle on your map to show you, but those are few and far between. Then, if you do find them, you kill a dome boss in an identical way to what you’ve done the entire rest of the game. Maybe you get one of two (actually awful) pieces of Halloween loot with a low drop rate chance.
