When we all think of Golden Retrievers, most of us picture sweet, easygoing dogs that don’t have a mean bone in their bodies, and that’s usually the case. TikToker @tatumdemare recently shared a video of her Golden Retriever puppy, Peach, trying to cuddle with her big brother, Teddy, but it’s clear he’s not having it!
Make sure your sound is on as you watch Teddy’s reaction to Peach trying to snuggle up. He doesn’t look like he’s happy about it! But things aren’t always what they seem, as you’ll find out when you start reading through the comments.
Tatum explains Teddy’s problem in the video’s caption, saying, “If you’re new here, don’t be alarmed. Peach likes to cuddle Teddy, and Teddy only likes to cuddle his mom LOL!” We’ve seen plenty of videos of pet siblings getting jealous of each other, but is that what’s really happening here?

Commenters Point Out that Teddy Is ‘Guarding’, Not Being a Cuddle Grouch
Some commenters left funny remarks about Teddy’s reaction, like Jon, who shared, “I love the absolute nonchalance like ‘It’s okay, you’ll learn to love me.’!”
@Jennifer Salling559 joked, “Labs and goldens’ fangs are just for show!! They don’t even have a license to use them!”
Other viewers left more than 650 comments about Teddy’s reaction in the video. They pointed out that Teddy was not upset because the puppy was trying to cuddle with him; instead, he was guarding her from the other dog, a German Shepherd named Luna.
@Wellumph pointed out, “It looks like he’s resource guarding the other retriever. He’s growling at the dog walking by. How do you not see this?” @pearlysuds agreed, “If you notice this isn’t about her cuddling or even the female…. he’s looking at the other dog walking by. For real, people, pay attention to dog behavior. This is about the other dog.”
Tatum listened, and in another video posted later, shared, “You guys totally opened my eyes in the last video! Teddy has always been a big play growler and is very vocal, but he has been growling more at Luna, and I think you guys figured it out for me. He’s guarding the puppy! We’ve always brushed it off and called it his ugly face because he’s not aggressive towards them, but everyone in the comments of the other video has opened my eyes!”
She’s now looking to get some training for Teddy and shared other videos showing how well Teddy and Luna normally get along. We’re glad the internet was able to help her figure out what was really going on!
