MAXTON, N.C. (WBTV) – A mass shooting that killed two people and injured 11 others started at a party involving teens, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

The shooting happened around 1:15 a.m. in Maxton, a small town in the eastern part of North Carolina. Deputies were originally called out for a loud music violation, but multiple calls came in saying people were shot.

Jessie Locklear Jr., 49, and Nehemiah Locklear, 16, were killed in the shooting. Both were from Lumberton.

“This was yet another senseless act of gun violence that has taken the lives of two individuals and left many others seriously injured,” Sheriff Burnis Wilkins wrote in a social media post.

Several other people, ranging in age from 17 to 43 years old, were hurt.

Anyone with more information should call sheriff’s office investigators at 910-671-3100 or email [email protected].
