If you’ve seen North West lately, you know that she’s currently in that classic pre-teen stage of experimenting with her looks.
Unfortunately, that’s received some criticism. More recently, the 12-year-old faced backlash after stepping out in a corset and miniskirt during an August trip to Rome with Kim Kardashian. After people called it inappropriate for someone her age, Kim agreed, but also said she’s letting North figure out her own style.

“She’s usually a girl that dresses like a tomboy most of the time,” she said of North. “She wanted to try something that her friends were wearing and went to the same place that they went to, and they all got these outfits, and then she wears them, and it’s just like, ‘OK, wait, maybe you can’t wear that.’ And so as a mom, you’re kind of learning at the same time.”

Fast-forward to last week, when North sparked another round of criticism when she debuted a bold new look on TikTok. In a series of videos taken before what appeared to be a concert, North was seen with a faux septum piercing and multiple face tattoos — including a large star under her right eye and scripted handwriting under her left eye. She wore a graphic tee, baggy bottoms, blue contacts, and a black grill, with her hair styled in chunky, bright blue braids.

Once again, people were quick to react. Many said it was a classic case of “bad parenting.” “Her ‘mother’ is doing the opposite of mothering,” one person tweeted, as another wrote, “Omgosh !!! Why would any parent be ok with this?? I know my child wouldn’t be looking like that.”

Amid the reactions, the Daily Mail Australia published a TikTok video with the headline, “North West, 12, worries fans with new look.” The post highlighted several other concerned comments, including, “She’s 12 years old by the way,” and, “This is just sad.” Others wrote, “How about go be a kid,” and, “What in the Kanye West is happening?”

Kim caught wind of the post — and quickly hit the comments to react. Writing from her and North’s joint TikTok account, she said, “This is such a non-issue😭.”

And people in the comments agreed. “This IS 12,” one person wrote. “I tried the same looks at 12 I just didn’t have social media and my parents weren’t famous so I just myob like be so for real leave her be.” Another shared, “Shes a kid playing dress up with her friends… where is the problem.”

“As if they don’t sell fake tattoos for kids…. Since forever,” one more added.
