William Daniels didn’t mince words with his recent statement about the “current president.”
The beloved actor—known for such roles as Mr. Feeny on Disney’s cult classic coming-of-age sitcom, Boy Meets World, Mark Craig in drama series St. Elsewhere, the voice of KITT on Nightrider, and more—took to social media on Monday, Oct. 27 to share his bold take on President Donald Trump.
Reflecting on his role as John Adams in musical film 1776, Daniels, 98, posted a photo of himself and two costars in costume on-set.
“We performed ‘1776’ in the beautiful East Room when Nixon was in the White House. He was very gracious even though none of us had voted for him,” he recollected in the caption of the upload. “The current president has ripped a piece of history from our lives and we mustn’t take this lightly.”

Trump’s White House Demolition Plans
The statement coincided with the week Trump’s plans to demolish the historic East Wing of the White House for “renovations” and a new 90,000 square-foot, $300M ballroom officially took effect, with photos published by PBS showcasing the jarring construction work being done on the property.
“Nearly every single president who has lived in this beautiful White House … has made modernizations and renovations of their own,” insisted White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, per CNN.
Meanwhile, author Kate Andersen Brower, who has written extensively about The People’s House, agreed with that foundational claim, however, pointed out one huge difference: “We have never seen a wrecking ball taken to an entire wing.”

Daniels’ strong sentiment struck a chord with fans. As is common regarding political discourse, his followers were divided in the comments section, displaying differing opinions on the hot-button topic.
“What did he rip down? The end of a building erected in the 1940s? Oh our treasured past!!! Spare me the feigned outrage, Feeny,” one response read, while another commenter added, “You never thought of the building until he did this.”
“Oh Feeny you had me with Nixon and lost me at the tearing of the east end. Nostalgia is great but many presidents have done renovations. It’s sad that you probably didn’t have this same sentiment when people were destroying hundred year old monuments down claiming they were on the side of history while trying to rewrite it,” a third penned in defense of Trump’s divisive move.

On the other hand, some had a different point of view. “Oh man, it warms my heart that Mr. Feeney is on the right side of history,” one wrote.
Another echoed the above, applauding, “Thank you for saying something Bill! You are a national treasure,” as a separate Instagram user chimed in to commend his bravery: “Speaking truth in difficult times is an act of both courage and wisdom. Thank you for leading by example, Mr. Daniels/Feeny/Adams.”
“Thank you for continuing to fight the good fight and to love us all by speaking the truth, our Mr. Feeny. Class will never be dismissed in your presence,” someone else praised.
