A new strategy applied by Qualcomm for next year is not just offering its top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for the most premium Android flagships out there, but also to offer an alternative to its phone partners that is more affordable and is mass produced on TSMC’s newest 3nm ‘N3P’ process.
That SoC is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, and given the ludicrous price of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, we are confident that we will witness the less expensive solution power several ‘price to performance’ smartphones in 2026. A tipster has shared various specifications of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, along with some benchmarks, while mentioning that the latter is on par with a Snapdragon 8 Elite in one area.
Unlike the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the non-flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will feature the older Adreno 840
On Weibo, tipster Digital Chat Station says that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will feature an 8-core CPU cluster comprising two performance cores and six efficiency cores. For the first time, Qualcomm will include its in-house Oryon technology in a non-flagship SoC, with the performance cores running at 3.80GHz and the efficiency ones clocked in at 3.32GHz.
This difference means that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will be slower than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in single-core and multi-core performance, despite sharing the same lithography. According to the tipster, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5’s CPU is on par with last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, with the Adreno 840 GPU being slightly inferior. The frequency of the graphics processor is tweaked to run at 1.20GHz.
The tipster has also taken the liberty to share some benchmark figures below, and considering that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will be found in more affordable smartphones, these numbers are pretty impressive, at least on paper.
- AnTuTu – 3.3+ million
- Geekbench 6 – Single-core 3,000+ points, multi-core 10,000+ points
- GFXBench – Aztec 1440p 100+ FPS
Like Apple, Qualcomm is bringing a less powerful option to the table, which thankfully, does not bring a wave of compromises. In short, devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will continue to flaunt flagship-level features and will be sold at a significantly lower price. We talked about this chipset being the best choice for Samsung to use in its upcoming Galaxy S26 FE, but we will keep our fingers crossed and confirm if the SoC produces the same results claimed in this rumor.
