Diplo is poking a little fun at a new romance featuring two people he may or may not have been romantically linked to in the past.

It all started after the 46-year-old DJ made an appearance on the Smart Girl Dumb Questions podcast, where he had mentioned Katy Perry dating Justin Trudeau at one point.

“And now Katy Perry is dating Justin Trudeau,” he noted, as the host said: “I know. Pretty fire. I know so many people who like kind of….”

Diplo interrupted, saying: “Dated Katy Perry like me.”

“Oh, did you date Katy Perry? I meant Trudeau,” the host replied.

Diplo joked: “Oh, I did date Trudeau, too. That was a weird one though….I’m not into politicians.” The host later clarified in the YouTube comments that he was just joking, although people believe he’s telling the truth.

Days later amid headlines, Diplo shared a selfie with Justin, adding a cheeky Katy Perry song title reference: “The one that got away.”
