A ‘historic dawn for the Middle East’ is breaking,Trump tells Knesset

US President Donald Trump has told the Israeli parliament that Monday was “a day of profound joy” and a day to give praise to the “God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

“The hostages are back; it feels so good to say it,” he said.

“This is the end of an age of terror and death” and the beginning of turning the Middle East into “a truly magnificent region,” Trump went on.

This is “the historic dawn of a new Middle East,” he said.

He also praised Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying he was “not the easiest guy to deal with, but that’s what makes him great.”

Trump also thanked nations of the Arab world for being “partners in peace” that had put pressure on Hamas.

“It will be the golden age of Israel and the golden age of the Middle East,” just as it was a golden age in the US, he said.

He thanked Steve Witkoff, the US special envoy to the Middle East, for his “tremendous negotiating skills” and his own son-in-law, Jared Kushner, for having been instrumental in bringing about the Abraham Accords that saw an improvement in ties between Israel and several Arab countires.

He also called US top diplomat Marco Rubio “the greatest secretary of state in the history of the United States.”

During the speech, a left-wing member of the Knesset was hustled out of the hall during the speech for having interrupted.

“That was very efficient,” Trump said.

Ahead of his speech, Trump received a standing ovation in the parliament and also garnered fulsome praise, among other things, for his 2017 decision, in his first term as president, to give US recognition to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
