‘One of the greatest singers of his time’
Warren Williams, a rock legend in Australia, has died.
He was 85. He had reportedly been battling a lengthy illness.
“Yesterday (Nov. 29) was a very sad day with the loss of my father Warren Williams,” the musician’s son, Warren Williams Jr., wrote on Facebook. “A most humble, kind and quiet man who taught me so much about being a good human. One of the greatest singers and performers of his time. The memories of growing up by his side will always be there. RIP Dad, we will all miss you.”
His followers were quick to send prayers and well-wishes.
“My heart goes out to you and your family during this difficult time,” Glenda Spehr replied.
“I was so saddened to hear of your dad’s passing,” Pete Graham wrote. “Warren was a remarkable man whose presence touched many lives. Please know that you’re in my thoughts during this difficult time and may the memories you hold bring comfort and strength in the days ahead. Sincerest condolences.”
“So sorry to read this Warren,” Helen Pain wrote. “I remember your Dad from those early days of TV — he was one of the original Aussie rock stars — and a lovely person as well. Condolences to you and your family. Your Dad must have been so proud of you and your amazing achievements in so many areas of life. RIP Warren.”
Williams career took off after he was invited to be on the ABC music variety show “Six O’Clock Rock” in the 1960s. The Sydney native was credited with being one of his country’s first rock singers.
