2026 Winter Olympics: Where to watch Team Canada vs. Finland men’s hockey semifinal — Free stream, TV channels, start time, who’s playing and more
Following a thrilling 4-3 overtime win over Czechia in the quarterfinal of the men’s Olympic hockey tournament, Team Canada will see Finland in the semifinals today at 10:40 a.m. EST/7:40 a.m. PST.
It’s always significant when Team Canada takes the ice in Olympic hockey, but these 2026 Games have been even more special than usual as its the first time since the 2014 Games in Sochi that NHL players are back playing in the Olympics. That makes this the most high stakes best-on-best hockey tournament in 12 years.
Canada comes into today’s matchup having finally been tested by Czechia in the quarterfinal. Previous to that instant classic, the Canadians had ripped through the group stage, outscoring opponents 15-3.
In the quarterfinals, however, Canada got all it could handle and more — including dealing with too many Czechs on the ice — and came out of it knowing that this is a team that can handle a little bit of adversity.
With that said, the top storyline coming out of that game was the status of captain Sidney Crosby, who, it was announced Friday won’t be available to play against Finland.
Connor McDavid will wear the “C” for Canada Friday, while Nathan MacKinnon was named the second alternate captain, along with this Colorado Avalanche teammate Cale Makar.
The 38-year-old Crosby had to hobble off the ice in the second period of Canada’s quarterfinal with Czechia after he was crunched along the boards by Radko Gudas and Martin Necas.
Speaking to reporters Thursday, Team Canada head coach Jon Cooper made mention that he’s “not ruling out” Crosby from the Olympic tournament quite yet.
As well, Josh Morrissey was scratched from the quarterfinal lineup after practising Tuesday. It was his third straight absence after he left Canada’s opener against Czechia with an apparent injury. He remains out against Finland.
Here’s a look at Canada’s lineup against Finland:
Looking at Finland, it, too, faced adversity in its quarterfinal match, and came out the victor.
The Suomi trailed Switzerland Wednesday 2-0 after the first period, but rallied back to tie the game thanks to goals from Sebastian Aho and Miro Heiskanen with just a little over six minutes to play in regulation. Then, in overtime, Artturi Lehkonen won it for Finland, completing the comeback.
The winner of this semifinal will move onto the gold-medal game Sunday at 8:10 a.m. EST/5:10 a.m. PST. The loser will play in the bronze-medal game Saturday at 2:10 p.m. EST/11:10 a.m. PST.
