Florida State fell below .500 on Saturday, dropping its fourth straight game on the season and ninth straight in conference play.
The Seminoles (3-4, 0-4 ACC) managed to score just one touchdown against Stanford (3-4, 2-2 ACC), falling 20-13 to the Cardinal in a late-game nightmare of a showing.
What, if anything, is there to make of yet another Florida State loss? As always, the Tomahawk Nation staff is here to help.
- Outside of Jacksonville State, was this the most embarrassing loss of Mike Norvell’s tenure?
Tim Scribble: Yes, no, maybe? It’s just the same result, new week. He won two games last year, so it’s all embarrassing. How do you get a delay of game on the first play?
Jordan Silversmith: It’s tough to say because they are all starting to blend together. They’re all embarrassing in their own unique way. I will say what’s special about this one is that we continue to learn that there is no floor with how low this program under Norvell can go.
LastNoleOfKrypton: I think so; fairly obvious from snap 1 (a literal delay of game on the opening snap] how woefully underprepared they were for the late adjustment.
Perry Kostidakis: Hands down yes, if only because I was embarrassed that I actually believed they’d pull off the win up until the last second.
- What was the main reason behind FSU’s loss?
Tim Scribble: Since TC got hurt against Kent State, he’s been a different QB. I just can’t believe Gus is calling that many deep shots. It feels like hero ball instead of taking what’s there. Also, please play Kromah more.
Jordan Silversmith: Penalties and starting on time. The same reason they continue to lose. 13 penalties for 87 is insane. To get shutout by Stanford in the first quarter might be even crazier. It’s a poorly coached team that does not do the little things and it shows.
LastNoleOfKrypton: Listless offense and lack of discipline.
Perry Kostidakis: Self-inflicted Seminoles striking yet again — 444 yards of total offense, just 13 points, 13 penalties.
- Did any bit of tonight’s game have a bright spot for you?
Tim Scribble: Sperry was rattled at first but he did fine.
Jordan Silversmith: I continue to be impressed that FSU can push the ball down the field in the vertical passing game. Castellanos missed some shots and Malzahn probably dialed it up too much, but after having the forward pass be out of the offense last year, it is a welcome sight in 2025.
LastNoleOfKrypton: FSU will have to fight to keep Danzy from entering the portal because I’m sure teams will tamper once Norvell is officially let go.
Perry Kostidakis: Duce Robinson continues to be a cheat code when utilized, Kromah is good and honestly, I enjoyed that a few players went aggro after the dirty hit on Castellanos, probably the most fight I saw all night from them.
- What was the most frustrating part of tonight?
Tim Scribble: It’s not why they loss but the officials were not great. But that’s still second to throwing deep balls into triple coverage.
Jordan Silversmith: All of it. A three-touchdown favorite. The fact that you could see how poor Stanford was and could not do anything about it. It’s all just endless frustrating.
LastNoleOfKrypton: How consistently undisciplined they were in all phases but that’s a staple of the Mike Norvell era.
Perry Kostidakis: The 93-yard drive that FSU allowed Stanford to pull off — a 2-4 team absolutely asserting its will in a way that must have Alabama extremely pissed off.
- If not now, when do you make a change at head coach?
Tim Scribble: 2027. If you don’t axe Norvell now and pay the money then don’t start a new coach against a tough 2026 schedule. Feed Mike to the wolves.
Jordan Silversmith: It’s now or never. Either they’re willing to fork over the buyout money or we’ll check back in with the program in 2027.
LastNoleOfKrypton: As soon as humanly possible; it’s disrespectful but a certain tarmac comes to mind.
Perry Kostidakis: Unless you have a guy in mind and are ready to make a move, I’m with Tim.
