Max Verstappen continued to hunt down McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris in the Drivers’ Championship with a commanding weekend performance in Austin. But while the Dutchman and his Red Bull team have plenty to be excited about ahead of the final five races of the season, many of their rivals will be keen to escape to Mexico for a reset. Lawrence Barretto selects his winners and losers from the United States Grand Prix…

Winner: Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen is in the form of his life. The Red Bull driver’s victory in the Grand Prix followed a brilliant conversion of pole in the Sprint, meaning he has now scored 119 out of a possible 133 points in the last five events.

The 28-year-old, who finished 72 seconds behind the race winner in Hungary six races ago, has gone from 104 points adrift of championship leader Piastri to just 40 in only four races with five Grands Prix – two of which are Sprint weekends – still to go.
