90% Over Premiere, Series Hits 65 Million Hours
After debuting as FX’s most streamed limited series ever, “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette” has remained a hit.
The series recently crossed 65 million hours streamed across Hulu and Disney+. Measured by Disney, that total refers to worldwide viewership to date, with Disney noting that 40% of the show’s audience is from outside of the U.S.
Titled “Search and Recovery,” the March 26 finale was the most-watched episode in the series’ run. Though Disney did not provide an exact number of views for the episode, the company noted a 20% increase from the penultimate episode and a 90% increase from the premiere. (Episodes were compared based on totals from their respective first days of streaming.)
The growing popularity of “Love Story” throughout its run has also continued to draw new viewers to the premiere, which has crossed 14 million views to date across FX, Hulu and Disney+. Social media buzz has been high, with Disney boasting that TikTok searches for both John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette grew by 9,100% over the last month and #lovestory has generated tens of millions of posts worldwide. The series’ cultural impact has also noticeable for brands and businesses depicted in the show; New York City soap and cosmetics brand C.O. Bigelow has achieved its highest sales ever for accessories because of a headband worn by Bessette, and Indian restaurant Panna II Garden saw a 40% increase in reservations after the series premiere, which showed Kennedy and Bessette dining there on a date.
“Love Story” stars Paul Anthony Kelly as Kennedy and Sarah Pidgeon as Bessette. Grace Gummer, Naomi Watts, Alessandro Nivola, Leila George, Sydney Lemmon and Constance Zimmer also star. The series was created by Connor Hines, who serves as executive producer alongside Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Eric Kovtun, Nissa Diederich, Scott Robertson, Monica Levinson, Kim Rosenstock, D.V. DeVincentis and Tanase Popa. Max Winkler executive produced and directed the pilot episode. 20th Television is the studio.
