ESPN’s Kalyn Kaler, the pool reporter for the Seahawks’ practice for the Pro Football Writers of America, wrote that Emmanwori was hurt late in practice while defending a pass and walked off the field on his own. Kaler wrote that “several players and coaches went over to comfort him before he left.”
Emmanwori missed nearly a month near the beginning of the season due to an ankle injury he suffered in Week 1.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald addressed Emmanwori’s status after Wednesday’s practice.
“He had an ankle today, we brought him in to look at it, and we’ll kind of go from here and figure out what are the next steps,” Macdonald said.
Emmanwori, a second-round pick out of South Carolina, is a finalist for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, which will be awarded at the NFL Honors, which will air at 6 p.m. Thursday on NBC, the NFL Network and Peacock.
A versatile weapon who can move between several positions on defense, Emmanwori had 11 passes defensed, one interception, 2.5 sacks, four QB hits, nine tackles for loss and 81 combined tackles in 14 games in the regular season. He also has four passes defensed, a fumble recovery and eight combined tackles in Seattle’s two playoff games.
