Rapper Lil Poppa dead at 25

Florida rapper Lil Poppa has died at 25.
The Jacksonville artist (real name Janarious Wheeler) reportedly died in Georgia on February 18th.
According to TMZ, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that he was pronounced dead at 11:23am. However, the cause of death wasn’t confirmed.
Rappers and music industry figures took to social media to pay tribute to Poppa following his death.
Great Day Records CEO Caroline ‘Baroline’ Diaz wrote on X, “My little brother is gone. Poppa I love you so much. I am so broken. One of the first artists I had at Interscope. A&R’ed 4 of his projects. I’m so sad right now.”
Lil Duval also said, “This one really hurt me cuz i really cared about lil poppa. Most of us in Jacksonville knew him since he was a kid. And we all wanted him to win and he was. Cuz once the drill music died done he was the only one left standing. And he deserved it cuz He was really who all these other YN rappers wanted to be in Jacksonville.”
Wheeler referenced death on the 2024 track ‘Reintroduction’ from his Wee Are Who We Are album.
On the song, he rapped, “Pac died at 25, Biggie died at 24/ And it made me nervous/ I just turned the same age a couple of days ago.”
The popular rapper signed to Yo Gotti’s CMG label in 2022. His final album, Almost Normal Again, was released through Interscope Records in August 2025, featuring Mozzy, Yungeen Ace, and others.
He had over 645,000 monthly Spotify listeners, releasing his last single, ‘Out of Town Bae’, on February 13th. His biggest song, ‘Love and War’, has over 22 million streams on Spotify.
