Browns ‘adamant’ they’re not trading Myles Garrett after contract restructure

Cleveland has plenty of experience with this song and dance. In early 2025, Garrett publicly requested a trade, citing a desire to chase Super Bowls in the remaining years of his career. He then went on a media tour of sorts, doubling down on his requests publicly before committing to the Browns after they handed him a chart-topping four-year, $160 million deal.

Garrett promptly produced the second Defensive Player of the Year campaign of his career, resetting the single-season sack record (23) on his way to earning the top defensive honor.

Cleveland, meanwhile, struggled even with Garrett’s record-setting contributions, finishing 5-12 in a season that can largely be pinned on owning one of the NFL’s worst offenses. Continued difficulties certainly don’t help with dispelling rumors, but as Garafolo explained it Friday, the Browns will resist any and all trade talks regarding Garrett just as firmly as they did in 2025.

“It was not on the table last year,” Garafolo said on NFL Network. “It is not on the table again this year. … The Browns are saying they’re not gonna trade him, and they’ve promised us that we’re not gonna look dumb if we say that. So we’ll see.”

The Browns aren’t easily beating the allegations, not after they recently submitted a proposal to expand draft pick trading windows from three to five years into the future. Many have understandably seen these two events as more than a coincidence.

Garrett’s elite status will naturally attract immense interest any time it’s suggested he might be available. As of now, it seems as if the Browns aren’t entertaining the idea of trading him — even if the tea leaves suggest otherwise.
