Prince Andrew‘s scandal may be horrifying to most people, but he is reportedly carrying on as if nothing happened behind the scenes.
That might sound crazy, given the stories depicted in Virginia Giuffre’s memoir, Nobody’s Girl, but the disgraced royal still seems to think he’s untouchable behind palace walls. A source shared that Andrew still wants to be addressed like a royal family member by his staff, according to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack.
“Nothing has changed inside Royal Lodge,” a staffer claimed. “The butler still says ‘Your Royal Highness,’ and the staff still bow. Andrew’s made it clear — palace rules don’t apply inside his walls.” That request seems pretty brazen, since he and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, lost their Duke and Duchess of York titles last week. “He insists it’s his birthright — not something the King can erase,” the insider added.

While King Charles III’s punishment is one aspect of Prince Andrew’s downfall, it would take Parliament to make it official — and it looks like some members want to take action. Chancellor Rachel Reeves told the BBC on Oct. 21 that Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein and his rent-free lifestyle at Royal Lodge are worth looking into.
“He shouldn’t have been associated with a convicted pedophile, and I think the new revelations in this book make for very sober reading, and I’m sure everybody will reflect on that and form their own judgment,” she said.
The Times discovered that Prince Andrew’s lease allowed him to pay around $1.3 million upfront and over $10 million in renovations, but he’s essentially lived rent-free after that initial payment in 2003.
Andrew’s level of entitlement goes way back — this isn’t new behavior. Newsnight producer Sam McAlister was in the room during his disastrous 2019 interview with the program. She told SheKnows in April 2024 that he failed to read the room about the seriousness of the Epstein issue. McAlister described him as “very overconfident” about his “own capabilities.” He thought he could talk his way out of the situation because he knew how to “work a room.”
That sentiment aligns with Shuter’s source, who added, “He’s living in his own royal bubble. To the world, he’s a fallen prince — but in his home, he’s still the Duke.”
Prince Andrew’s downfall took a long time, but he’s not ready to give up the privilege of royal life without a fight.
