Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson was sleeping in the driver’s seat of his car, with his engine running, when police found him before his DWI arrest in Houston on Sunday, as seen in photos obtained by TMZ.

Peterson, 40, is hunched over behind the wheel of his black SUV while at a Sugar Land, Texas gas station, as seen in the images.

Someone at the gas station, who took photos of Peterson, told TMZ that the former 2012 NFL MVP was was holding his phone in his hand as he dozed off with the vehicle running.

Police reportedly took Peterson out of the vehicle and he later failed field sobriety tests.

A gun was also found inside his car, according to TMZ.

Peterson was charged with driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon, Alicia Alaniz, a spokeswoman with the Sugar Land Police Department, confirmed to The Post.

He was still in the Fort Bend County Jail on Monday, according to The Associated Press.

This is Peterson’s second DWI arrest in 2025.

The three-time league rushing champion was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Minneapolis in April when police pulled him over for speeding.

Peterson had attended a NFL draft party before being pulled over.

He has yet to publicly address his Sunday arrest.

Peterson last played in the NFL in 2021, and has yet to formally announce his retirement.

He spent 10 years with the Vikings before stints with the Rams, Cardinals, Washington, Lions, Titans and Seahawks.

He recorded 14,918 rushing yards and 120 rushing touchdowns over 15 seasons.
