C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s chaotic NFL season will continue in a new home.

The veteran safety signed with the injury-riddled Bears on Wednesday as Chicago looks to fortify its secondary, ESPN.com reports.

It’s been quite the ride for Gardner-Johnson since this offseason.

The 27-year-old was traded from the Eagles to the Texans in March after winning a Super Bowl in Philadelphia, released by Houston just three games into the season and then signed by the Ravens, who quickly cut him again without playing a game with Baltimore.

The Bears are in desperate need of help in the secondary with top corners Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon on injured reserve, and their No. 3 corner, Tyrique Stevenson, also out with an injury.

It could mean that Gardner-Johnson will move from safety to cornerback with his new team.

The often-outspoken Gardner-Johnson was reportedly frustrated with his role with the Texans and was causing “friction behind the scenes” prior to his release.

“In the end, took a shot on goal. Didn’t work out, move on, and let’s focus on the rest of the team and the players that are here,” Texans general manager Nick Caserio told reporters about the decision.

“There’s really nothing more to it. I’m not trying to oversimplify it, but that’s the reality of the situation. Certainly wish him well. Good to work with. In the end, that’s the decision that we made, and moved ahead.”

Gardner-Johnson’s split with the Ravens was “amicable,” according to reports, as he was looking for a clearer path to playing time.

“I just want to take a moment to thank all the teams I’ve been a part of coaches, teammates, and everyone who’s supported me along the way,” Gardner-Johnson wrote on X at the time. “Every experience has helped me grow both on and off the field. I’m truly grateful for all the opportunities and memories. Football has always been a big part of who I am, and my passion for the game is still strong. I’m excited to keep working, improving, and continuing to play the sport I love.”

The 4-3 Bears visit the Bengals (3-5) on Sunday.
