Carson Daly reacts to cohost Savannah Guthrie’s ‘gut-wrenching’ state of ‘limbo’ weeks after mom’s disappearance
Carson Daly is opening up about Savannah Guthrie‘s strength as the search for her mother, Nancy Guthrie, continues.
On Wednesday, March 25, Daly discussed her “resilience” with Today show colleagues Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin, and Al Roker following a preview of Guthrie’s upcoming interview with Kotb. The interview, which will air on March 26 and 27, will feature the Today anchor discussing her mom Nancy’s suspected abduction on Feb. 1.
“It’s gut-wrenching to watch someone you love so much be, still post–50 days of this tragic event, in this tortured limbo state,” Daly shared. “Yet, to still show so much resilience among it all.”
Still, Daly said it is challenging to see Guthrie suffer and be “no closer to closure” as the search for her mother nears its ninth week.
“It’s been so long to see our friend still so tortured, this far after this horrible event,” Daly added.

In a preview clip for the two-part interview, a tearful Guthrie tells Kotb that she and her family are “in agony” as authorities continue to search for Nancy.
“It is unbearable,” Guthrie says to Kotb. “And to think of what she went through, I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night. And in the darkness, I imagine her terror and it is unthinkable.”
“But those thoughts demand to be thought,” Guthrie continues. “And I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now.”

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on the evening of Jan. 31 outside her Tucson-area home after being dropped off by family. The following day, she was declared missing after she did not appear at a friend’s house for her weekly church meeting.
Since her disappearance, investigators with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI have teamed up for a large-scale search across the area where Nancy lived. The FBI have additionally released images of a potential suspect, which showed a masked and gloved individual at her front door on the night of her disappearance.
Savannah plans to rejoin the Today show, but an official return date has not yet been announced. She visited the morning show’s set on March 5 for the first time since her mother went missing, thanking her colleagues for their support.
