Dante Scarnecchia to Seahawks claiming they knew Patriots’ plays: ‘Shut up’

In wake their Super Bowl win, the Seahawks claimed the Patriots were tipping their hand when it came to pass protection.
“We had a good tell on what they like to do and how they like to play and how they were going to attack us,” Seahawks cornerback Devin Witherspoon told SiriusXM NFL Radio not long after Seattle beat the Patriots, 29-13, in Super Bowl 60.
Supposedly, the Patriots offensive linemen offered up a “tell” that tipped off the Seahawks defenders as to what was coming.
How much of a problem might that present? Does it need to be addressed?
Patriots legendary coach Dante Scarnecchia heard the report, and didn’t necessarily dismiss it.
“I think this: I’m sure in their scouting, they may have come up with some things. You never know,” Scarnecchia said when reached by MassLive Wednesday. “I would hope you don’t fall into that trap. Like, every time this guy is in a two-point stance, we’re passing. Every time he’s not, we’re running.”
It wasn’t clear if something that simple was the tell. The Seahawks didn’t go into detail save for claiming they knew the script.
“It all sounds good after the fact,” Scarnecchia said. “And if you’re on the receiving end of it, if you’re the Patriots, I think you ought to take a look at it.”
Mike Vrabel, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and offensive line coach Doug Marrone will no doubt go over film and if they were tipping off the Seahawks, make changes for next year.
While Scarnecchia acknowledged the Seahawks could say whatever they wanted, he offered a piece of advice about gloating after the fact and claiming to know the other team’s playbook.
Said Scar: “Put your hand over your mouth and shut up. You won.”
