Denise Richards’ ex-husband, Aaron Phypers, has been arrested in a Los Angeles courtroom.
Phypers was handcuffed inside the courtroom on Friday, October 17, on spousal abuse charges, per Fox News Digital.
The former couple has been in court the past week for a hearing for Richards to obtain a restraining order against Phypers.
According to People Magazine, a criminal complaint was filed at the Van Nuys courthouse on Wednesday. Phypers is facing criminal charges including two counts of injuring a spouse, cohabitant, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend or child’s parent; and two counts of dissuading a witness by force or threat. Three of the alleged incidents took place on Jan 17, 2022, and one on May 3, 2022 according to documents obtained by People.
Phypers filed for divorce in July, and Richards was granted a temporary restraining order at the time after allegations of physical and emotional abuse during their marriage, including an alleged violent incident that occurred around the time he filed for divorce.
During the hearing earlier this month, Richards stated that her former husband “caused me at least three concussions” during their marriage, according to People Magazine.
She also claimed he attempted to destroy her reputation following their breakup by stealing her laptop and leaking sensitive information and nude photos of her, per Fox News Digital.
In a statement to People magazine, Phypers denied Richards’ allegations, saying, “I absolutely deny the false allegations that I violated the restraining order or stole Denise’s laptop or cellphones. These claims are not only untrue, they are being weaponized to damage my reputation and distract from the truth.”
