Denver ‘Love is Blind’ makes history and not in a good way

The day finally arrived for Denverites to find out if love is truly blind for the couples on Netflix’s reality series “Love is Blind” and there’s only one way to put this: No.

The show, which landed in the Mile High City for its ninth season, came to a dramatic conclusion this week and made history as the first season in the franchise with zero successful marriages. You read that right: Not a single couple that got engaged sight unseen said “yes” at the altar and to a life thereafter, a record that puts “Love is Blind” in the company of the Colorado Rockies for worst season record.

In fact, Denver is unique in that the majority of couples didn’t even make it to their nuptials. Prior to Wednesday’s finale, two couples had already called it quits. And in a shocking turn of events, a third couple declined to walk down the aisle the day of their wedding.

The “Love is Blind” finale ended with Sparkle Megan breaking up with her fiancee Jordan, after what appeared to be insurmountable differences in their lifestyles. Megan, a wellness entrepreneur, originally took a liking to Jordan in the pods because he has a five-year-old son. His son, named Luca, also had Type 1 Diabetes, which Megan’s dad also had before his passing. But in the weeks following their pod engagement, Megan realized she would have to “make a lot of concessions” in her current life of traveling and dining out at restaurants to fit their dynamic.

Megan described her and Jordan’s relationship as “two ships in the night.” The morning of their scheduled wedding, she called the whole thing off despite her excitement about becoming a stepmom.

“Honestly, this has me questioning if I’m even cut out to be a mom,” Megan said through tears. It was a very interesting way to conclude the episode, considering a publication reported this week that Megan was spotted with a mystery man and newborn baby at her home in Denver. We expect to hear more about this development at the reunion, slated to air Oct. 29.

So Denver only got two weddings out of five potential couples: Ali and Anton, and Kalybriah and Edmond. Both got to celebrate their big day at the picturesque Sanctuary golf course in Sedalia, against the backdrop of the fairways and snow-capped mountains. Although “celebration” didn’t end up being the vibe of either gathering.

First up was Ali and Anton, who both seemed genuinely stoked about the potential of a happily ever after on the morning of their wedding. But that sentiment didn’t carry through all the way to the time they stood in front of family and friends to decide if love is truly blind. Anton said yes, while Ali gave it a hard no.

“I can’t be your wife. I feel like the person I fell in love with in the pods isn’t the person I’ve gotten to experience in real life,” she said, adding a little insult to injury.

Wedding No. 2 seemed even more poised for success, as Kalybriah and Edmond stood at the altar, complimenting each other and sharing “I love the hell out of you” back and forth. Dressed in a gray suit with a peacock feather bowtie, Edmond gave an emphatic “I do” – only to be met with Kalybriah crying.
