Dragon Quest X Main Story Ending In Upcoming Version 8 Update; Switch 2 Updates Announced
At the Dragon Quest X Spring Festival 2026, which was held between March 20–21, Square Enix shared major updates for the ongoing MMORPG.
The upcoming expansion, roughly translated to Version 8: The Lost Children of Time and Space, will be released on June 25, 2026.
One of the biggest announcements is that the game’s main story will reach its conclusion during Version 8. While the central narrative will wrap up, Square Enix confirmed that side stories and other content will continue beyond it.
Performance improvements were also announced for the Nintendo Switch 2, including faster performance, improved event scenes, HDR support, and a higher handheld resolution from 720p to 1080p. These upgrades will be part of a free update.
The official website contains more intricate details about the gameplay content of the upcoming version update.
Dragon Quest X is available exclusively in Japan. An offline version that adapts select story material was also made, but it has not been localized.
