Earthquake Felt in Santa Clara Ahead of Seahawks vs. Patriots NFL Super Bowl 60 at Levi’s Stadium

The start of Super Bowl week kicked off with a surprising event on Monday morning.

As the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots gear up for Super Bowl 60 in Santa Clara, California, a 4.2 earthquake struck in the area after a 3.9 quake and a string of over a dozen tremors, per the U.S. Geological Survey. ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, who is in town to cover the Super Bowl, confirmed that the quake was felt in Santa Clara.

According to ABC 7 News, the rumbling began with a 3.9 quake at 6:27 a.m. PT, and at least five other smaller tremors struck before 7 a.m.

At 7:01 local time, the 4.2 quake struck with a depth of nearly 9.4 kilometers. The area reportedly “has seen multiple strings of tremors in the past several months.”

The Patriots and Seahawks will meet at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, which is home to the San Francisco 49ers. Both teams went 14-3 this season, creating a matchup between two of the NFL’s best squads.
